India Accelerates Green Energy Shift: Ethanol 100 Rollout Gains Momentum Across Major Fuel Stations

NEW DELHI — In a major push toward sustainable mobility and reducing foreign oil dependency, India’s public sector oil marketing companies, led by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), are rapidly expanding the infrastructure for ETHANOL 100 across key retail outlets nationwide.

The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas's strategic roadmap to promote bio-fuels, lower carbon emissions, and provide cleaner energy alternatives for automotive transport.

Driving Sustainable Mobility

Ethanol 100 (E100) is a high-octane blend comprising 93–95% ethanol mixed with petrol, designed specifically for flex-fuel vehicles (FFVs). The fuel offers a significantly cleaner burn compared to traditional fossil fuels, lowering tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions and particulate matter.

According to industry experts, the nationwide deployment of E100 dispensing units at retail pumps marks a pivotal step in India’s transition to zero-carbon energy goals.

"The expansion of Ethanol 100 infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to green technology while boosting the domestic agricultural economy through sugarcane and grain-based ethanol production," noted a senior official from the energy sector.

  • Emissions Reduction: E100 adoption is expected to cut carbon footprint significantly compared to standard unleaded petrol.

  • Support for Farmers: Increased demand for ethanol directly supports Indian farmers by utilizing surplus agricultural yield.

  • Energy Security: Substituting imported crude oil with domestically produced ethanol strengthens India's energy self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat).
